I’m stressed because I’ll be moving across the country in a couple of weeks, so I’m taking a break from my responsibilities to talk about my current obsession: 全职高手 (The King’s Avatar.
The King’s Avatar is a Chinese “anime” about e-sports, a combination of words that I had zero interest in until a couple of months ago when this show started airing. My friend recommended it so I watched the first couple of episodes. And man, I was expecting like an even lower quality SAO ripoff but King’s Avatar is surprisingly great???? I was pleasantly surprised and continued watching and then when I caught up I went to find the novel and plowed through all 600+ currently translated chapters in a couple of weeks and now here I am.
This post was scheduled ahead of time; I’m probably out of town right now.
The list of all the anime that I didn’t like and dropped without finishing is really long (83 shows long, to be exact), so going through all of them is out of the question. There’s only so many reasons I usually have for dropping anime anyways, so I thought that it would still be interesting (to me at least) to just take a look at why I drop certain shows. This isn’t a complete list, but I have opinions and they’re not damaging and I felt like expressing them and this is my personal blog.
Welp, it looks like I’ll be taking a break from blogging for a while. Just while I sort through my personal life. I have a lot of anxiety, especially about my future and my career, and it’s really affecting me in detrimental ways. Writing blog posts here where I’m (more or less) anonymous, just another person on the internet, used to be a way for me to deal with it. However, sometimes I’m not entirely comfortable putting myself out there, so I’m going to try to change things up a little bit. Also it’s a way for me to get used to changes in life. So yeah, not that there’s many people even reading this blog, but there is going to be quite a bit of a break between this post and the next one.
In the meantime, please watch Yuri!!! on Ice; this anime is everything!!! Excellent OST, great voice acting, (mostly) awesome animation, and most importantly, a canon healthy romantic relationship between two adult men that isn’t fetishized or otherwise offensive. It’s literally a sports anime that just happens to have a gay couple as the main characters. If you’re looking for more anime like this, I also recommend No.6, which is a dystopian story, and the couple is in their late teens. It’s also not about the relationship, and there is also (more than one!) on-screen kiss that isn’t fetishized or dramatic or anything. Like all they want to do is overthrow the government it’s great.
I’ve written about fanfiction before here, and about shipping here. But yeah, I love fanfiction. Mostly because you already know all the world elements and characters and everything is already set up so you can just jump right into the story. So nice.
I posted about my favorite books/novels a little while ago, so now it’s fanfiction’s turn. Honestly, I’m just keeping a list here for my own future use.
It’s that time of year again. New anime season!!!
After a somewhat lackluster spring and summer, I’m finally really excited for the fall lineup. So many that I’ve been waiting for.
You’d never think that cooking and food would make for very exciting manga, but there are a lot (?) out there and I’ve read several.
This is kind of sort of a continuation of my previous post on fanfiction. I’m writing more generally about the fandom but also more specifically about shipping characters. Once again, this is all my personal opinions. I encourage you to seek out other resources and information, if you are interested.
tl;dr: I lean more towards a positive view on shipping, but acknowledge the dark sides.
Warning: I will be touching on some unpleasant topics, such as rape, abuse, homophobia, etc. Please take care if these are triggering or make you uncomfortable.
